Do dates desired have to be specified upon purchase, or can a phone call be made at a later date to determine availability?

You do not need to book your reservation while making the purchase. After you make the purchase, you'll have until 1/18/13 to book your reservation. Travel needs to be completed by 3/31/13. Thanks for your interest!
