Days 1–4: Bangkok An overnight flight takes you to the bustling Thai capital, which Frommer's calls "an exhilarating attack on the senses." After a night of leisure, you'll spend the third day of the trip visiting some of Bangkok's most revered sites. At the Temple of the Golden Buddha, you’ll find the world’s largest solid-gold Buddha statue, a masterpiece weighing in at nearly six tons. The tour then winds past fragrant outdoor flower markets en route to the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, the city's oldest temple, dating back to the 7th century.

Your final day in Bangkok is yours to spend however you’d like. An optional tour includes a boat ride along the Chao Phraya River and a visit to the Grand Palace, an extravagant structure crowned with golden spires.

Day 5: River Kwai

Guests begin the day by heading to the War Cemetery and The Bridge over River Kwai before taking a trip on the 415 km long Burma-Thailand railway constructed by Allied prisoners of war during WWII. After lunch, guests can relax in the hotel or take the option Elephant Trekking & Bamboo Rafting tour.

Day 6: Ayutthaya

In the morning, the tour journeys north to Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that served as the capital of Siam for four centuries. You’ll see the ruins of temples, monasteries, and palaces, including Bang Pa-In Palace, which is surrounded by a massive moat over a thousand feet wide.

Days 7–11: Chiang Mai On day seven, a short flight brings you to Chiang Mai, a hillside village steeped in history and dotted with hundreds of sacred temples. One of them, Wat Chedi Luang, stands nearly 300 ft high and features a lengthy stairway adorned with stone snake sculptures. Also on the agenda is a tour of some local villages, where you can browse handcrafted items. In Bor Sang, the shops and vendor stalls overflow with colorful umbrellas and delicate, handheld fans. Before heading home, you have two free days to explore Chiang Mai on your own. Optional excursions include an elephant ride, river rafting, and a stop at Doi Suthep Temple, built in the 14th century.
