My wife and I celebrated our 15th anniversary in Thailand with Affordable World. We did the 10 day trip. We had the time of our lives!! I was wary at first since I haven't done a tour like this but by the end of the trip I told my wife I wouldn't wanna travel to a foreign country trip without booking with Affordable World. Our guides were the most awesome people and knew Thailand very well since they were both locals who grew up in Thailand. Sharky and Kitty are the guides everyone should request. Especially Sharky. He cared so much about everyone in the group. We had a lot of people in our group but he gave each and every person an individualized experience to make sure they were having a good time. There was a lot of work that went into our tour. I'm not sure how these guys made money on us cuz we got it for cheap and we got to stay in the nicest hotels. One of our hotels was right on the beach!! They included SOOOOO much with the tour. I thought the only way we'd have a good time is if we added tours and paid our own way on a lot of stuff. I was dead wrong. They included breakfast every single day and lunch on a few of the days. We ate like royalty!! They also included some amazing tours and great advice on what to do outside the tour. A lot of the things you can do in Thailand are super cheap or no cost at all. I highly highly recommend this trip with Affordable World. Especially if you can get Sharky as your tour guide.

  • Daily breakfast
  • Professional English speaking tour guide
  • Fuel surcharge and tax
  • Round trip airport transfers in each city
  • Orientation tour in each city

Days 1–4: Beijing

An overnight flight takes you to Beijing, China’s capital and one of the world’s biggest cities. During your 3-night stint in this megalopolis, you’ll tour Qianmen Street—the city’s shopping hub—and the sites for the 2008 Summer Olympics, including the Bird’s Nest and the Water Cube stadiums.

  • Tiananmen Square dates back to the 15th century. It extends over nearly 100 acres, making it the world’s biggest public square. Among Tiananmen’s highlights are the Monument to the People’s Heroes, a 120-foot granite obelisk commemorating fallen Chinese soldiers,
  • Forbidden City and Palace Museum: Once home to the imperial families of the Qing and Ming dynasties, this palatial complex has 800 buildings and thousands of rooms decked out with priceless artwork, antique furnishings, and precious jade.
  • Optional tours: A guided tour of the Forbidden City ($28/person), or take a day trip north to see the Great Wall of China ($49/person)

Days 5–6: Xi’an

The tour makes its way southwest to Xi’an, an ancient city that puts its 3,000-year history on full display. Most of the city is still surrounded by a moat and a 50-foot thick stone wall dating back to the 7th century. At Xi’an’s center stands the Drum and Bell Towers, two pagoda-like structures equipped with giant drums and bells that were used to keep time during the Ming Dynasty.

  • Big Wild Goose Pagoda was built during the 7th century and still stuns visitors with its elaborately carved Buddha statues. Climb the spiral staircase inside the pagoda for impressive views of the city.
  • Optional tour: Xi’an’s Terracotta Army—thousands of terracotta soldiers, horses, and chariots were carved during the third century to protect the tomb of China’s first emperor. This marvel remained undiscovered until roughly 40 years ago; today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of China’s top tourist attractions ($55/person).

Days 7–10: Shanghai

On day 7, you’ll head to Shanghai for the last leg of the tour. Here, you’ll take a guided tour of some of the city’s notable landmarks, including the Bund, the city’s riverfront district, where you can see examples of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture. The Bund happens to be right across the Huangpu River from the futuristic skyline in Pudong, offering picture-perfect views of its colorfully lit skyscrapers. Before boarding your homebound flight, you can spend a day relaxing or taking an optional side trip to glide along the landscaped canals in Suzhou.

  • The Shanghai Museum resembles a cooking pot on the outside; inside, you’ll find more than 100,000 artifacts, sculptures, and furnishings tracing back to the Ming and Qing dynasties.
  • City God Temple has been in place since the 15th century. It’s surrounded by ornate pavilions, teahouses, and vendors hawking incense and jewelry.
  • Optional tours: Explore the canals of nearby Suzhou, nicknamed the “Venice of the East” ($62/person), or enjoy an acrobatic dinner show ($40/person).

Wonderful bargain and perfect trip! We barely lifted a finger our entire trip - all transportation was classy and punctual. Tour guides were excellent. Accommodations were small but safe and clean, breakfasts were delicious. Communication with Affordable World was very good before and during our trip. Excellent for couples but due to the schedule may be difficult to manage with kids.
