Commonly Asked Questions

Where is this cruise taking off from? I am not seeing the starting point? Where do I fly to to take the trip?

shawn s. asked 5 months, 22 days, 21 hours, and 31 minutes ago - 1 answer

Jeannie B.

Shawn Thanks for your inquiry The cruise departs from and returns to Luxor. Your airfare needs to be in and out of Luxor, which is easy to reach in a 1 hour flight from Cairo. You can book this very easily yourself or if you need help with the airfare, our air desk would be happy to assist. Our air desk is at 1-800-453-8344 and ask for Chris. She can find very good rates into Cairo and Luxor for you. Please feel free to contact us with any further questions. Best Regards JB

Is it safe to travel to Egypt right now?

Vicki T. asked 5 months, 22 days, 20 hours, and 15 minutes ago - 2 answers

Jeannie B.

Vicki Thanks for your inquiry. We can answer honestly and resoundingly that travel to Egypt largely remains very safe as it generally has for several years. No Travel Advisories have been issued by the State Department, nor by the British Foreign Office, and we have been privileged to have had upwards of 300 + passengers travel with us in the last year safely to Egypt and all have returned safely. Recent disturbances from September have abated considerably, and even then, were very limited in scope to a very small section of downtown Cairo on and in front of Tahrir Square. Otherwise, travel to the Pyramids, to the Citadel, to Old Cairo and along the Nile River between Luxor and Aswan have all been very safe, at present and even during the days of the Revolution in February 2011. I hope you'll join us, Vicki, for this fantastic journey to the land of the Pharaohs and discover for yourself why Egypt remains one of the world's most sought-after destinations! Best Regards JB

Vicki, upon further reflection, while I appreciate your concerns and comments, I do find it revealing that tourism from the UK and Europe to Egypt has been far less affected by reports of unrest. Perhaps news outlets in the UK and Europe give a bit more balanced approach to the situation in Egypt which causes less panic. Indeed I think this is for good reason as the unrest reported in USA news outlets is far more limited than is being reported. While there are certainly parts of Egypt I would not recommend one travel to, such as the Sinai Peninsula and a very small part of downtown Cairo (much as I would recommend European or Egyptian citizens not travel to certain parts of the USA for the same reasons), I can honestly and wholeheartedly endorse the safety of travel to Egypt along the Nile from Luxor to Aswan, to the Pyramids and the Citadel in Cairo, and to Abu Simbel, as well as to many other parts of Egypt. I hope you’ll join us as I think you would have a wonderful and safe journey there and back again! Please feel free to contact us for any further information by e-mail or at (800) 487-1136. Best Regards Doug Lofland

Please be very specific about additional fees. Above you wrote that there is a gratuity of $50 for the crew, is this per day or per week, mandatory or optional? You wrote about a fee for the egyptologist, is this mandatory or optional and per day or week?

Zikret Thanks for your inquiry. The crew gratuity of $50 is per week and it is mandatory. The fee for the Egyptologist is optional and per day ($10-12 per person per day). Hope that helps JB

I am unable to request vacation time until after New Year's day. If I can't get off on the date I chose, is it possible to change dates once I redeem the voucher.

Vicki T. asked 5 months, 13 days, 8 hours, and 26 minutes ago - 1 answer

Jeannie B.

Hi Vicki, we understand that vacation schedules may not be set until after the New Year and therefore allow one free date change without fee. You must still redeem your Groupon voucher by the stated redemption date but you can make a change to those dates once redeemed. If your new dates would fall into a higher season, you would be responsible for the increased cost but no change fee would be assessed. Hope that helps! jb

More Questions and Answers

Also - how am I able to confirm that the 30 Dec 2012 departure date is still currently available? Are there any hidden fees when booking a tour during the "Holiday Rates"?

Duane M. asked 5 months, 2 days, 10 hours, and 55 minutes ago - 1 answer

Jeannie B.

Duane We can confirm that 30 December 2012 is indeed available. Holiday rates are $699 per person plus $300 per person as per the web page. There is normally an extra charge for New Year's Dinner, but we would give that to you at no extra charge if you book by tomorrow. Hope that helps! JB

What time - precisely - will the cruise tour take off to and return @ port in Luxor? How long does it take to get to and from the departure port in Luxor from the Luxor airport (LXR)?

Duane M. asked 5 months, 2 days, 11 hours, and 5 minutes ago - 1 answer

Jeannie B.

Duane Thanks for your inquiry. 1. while you would board the cruise on Sunday anytime, the cruise does not leave the port of Luxor until Monday afternoon at about 4-5 PM. This is to allow for sightseeing in Luxor all day Monday 2. The boat typically returns to port of Luxor approx. lunch time on the following Saturday so you can book your flight out of Luxor to Cairo at whatever time you need to either late Saturday evening or Sunday morning. 3. Travel from Luxor Airport to port of Luxor is approx 20 minutes. Hope that helps! JB

Two questions. 1) three of us are traveling together and would like to share a room. Is the room large enough? How much does it costs for the third person? Shall we purchase 2 groupons, then pay you for the third person? 2) We can only travel on 3/9-17. What if we purchase the groupons, and the date becomes unavailable?

Jessica K. asked 5 months, 8 days, 6 hours, and 13 minutes ago - 1 answer

Jeannie B.

Hi Jessica, yes, three adults can travel together and stay in the same room. The cabins would be a little tight but it is possible. The third person would receive a discount of $50. You would purchase 2 Groupons and then the third person would pay directly for the reduced package price. The dates for March 9-17, 2013 are available! Thanks so much for your interest. jb

I have a friend who really wants to go to Egypt. He is in a wheelchair. Is this wheelchair accessible?

Peri W. asked 5 months, 9 days, 21 hours, and 10 minutes ago - 2 answers

Jeannie B.

Peri Thanks for your inquiry. Much as I would like to tell you otherwise, I cannot recommend a Nile cruise for someone in a wheelchair as neither the boats nor the sites are easily accessible to someone in a wheelchair.. Let me check on some other options and get back to you. Be back to you shortly! JB

Jeannie B. answered 5 months, 9 days, 20 hours, and 19 minutes ago

Jeannie B.

Peri I have checked with our reps in Egypt again, and unfortunately, nothing has changed for wheelchair accessibility in Egypt. Therefore, I cannot recommend this tour for your friend as accessibility is not good in any part of tourism in the country. I wish I could tell you otherwise, but I wouldn;t want to risk a bad experience for a customer. Hope we can help you on another occasion! JB

Anthony N. asked 5 months, 9 days, 19 hours, and 48 minutes ago - 1 answer

Hello Josh, yes, there is space available in late December and early January. If you travel over either the Christmas or New Year's holidays, there is a holiday surcharge to keep in mind of $300 per person. It would be a fantastic time to visit the amazing temples and monuments! jb
