Huntington Beach, California: Charming Surf Town in Orange County

Huntington Beach proudly wears the nickname of Surf City, USA: it hosts the annual U.S. Open of Surfing, the Beach Boys sing about the city in their song ”Surfin’ Safari,” and eager surfers paddle out into the Pacific Ocean here. The average temperature is a near-perfect 67 degrees all year, and the sun is almost always shining. The beach is the main attraction, but there’s also the iconic Huntington Beach Pier. Rent a fishing pole to angle for halibut and sea bass (you don’t need a license), or buy a T-shirt at the pier’s souvenir stand. Wander downtown Huntington Beach to take in the laid-back surf-town atmosphere; be sure to pick up a pair of flip-flops—they’re standard footwear here.

Excellent stay. We first decided to hold off on the balcony and stay for $99, however we loved the stay so much that we decided to stay again the next night. That's when we upgraded to the king suite with a balcony! Will be back!

Ok For Overnight We opted for this Choice Hotel over the July 4th weekend. Honestly, it was not up to par. Our room (242) was not very clean, which, during the COVID summer of 2021, should be a priority. Try not to walk barefooted across the carpeting, as it turned our feet black. Perhaps a schedule of steam cleaning the carpets would help. The toilet paper holders were both loose, so that the rolls would fall off in mid-pull. One of my pet peeves is seeing hair on the floor, or, even worse, on the towels. We saw both. That being said…breakfast was poor for a grab-and-go. A prepackaged burrito, salsa packet, a banana, a small muffin, and a granola bar. No juice selection. We were glad to move on. **special note…the woman trainee at the front desk was outstanding, and will be an assist to the property.

Horrible Upon arrival there was a massive wait time to check in (we got there at 4pm), we stood in the lobby for over 45 minutes just to check in. Once we received our room key we noticed the room was not cleaned! Trash everywhere, hospital band on the dresser, beds were a mess and it smelled like cigarettes and weed (it was a non-smoking room). We asked for a different room and they said they could not switch us. We watched as the cleaning lady hurried to clean our room. She informed us that she notified front desk that our room was not ready but they went ahead and told us it was. We asked to speak to the manager and they did not allow us and said all they could do was take $10 off our entire stay! Horrible customer service and horrible staff. And when we asked for corporate's number they said "google it!" Won't be staying at any of their hotels again.
