Roomy Suites and Mission-Style Architecture Close to SeaWorld

At SeaWorld San Diego, you can see bottlenose dolphins, sea turtles, penguins, and California sea lions, as well as 22-foot killer whales at the signature Shamu show. Across town, in Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo holds more than 800 different species, including the giant panda. The Wyndham Garden San Diego near SeaWorld is located in between the two parks—just 2 miles from SeaWorld and 5 miles from the zoo.

The hotel’s mission-style architecture harks back to San Diego’s days as a Spanish outpost. Five separate buildings housing spacious suites are connected via open-air corridors. Suites feature separate living and sleeping spaces as well as 32-inch flat-screen TVs.

San Diego, California: Historical Attractions and Electric Nightlife in Southern California

San Diego’s sunny, comfortably warm weather and 70 miles of coastline have long attracted vacationing out-of-towners, but the city’s inland scene is no slouch, either. The Gaslamp Quarter is arguably one of the trendiest listings on the National Register of Historic Places. The area forms both the historic center of town and a hub of San Diego nightlife, with nearly 100 Victorian-era buildings now occupied by high-end boutiques, jewelers, and gourmet restaurants.

During the day, a stroll through iconic Balboa Park takes you past 17 separate museums, as well as the world-famous and much beloved San Diego Zoo. There’s also the vibrant Spanish Village Art Center, a living gallery where local artists continuously produce pottery, handblown glass, and oil paintings for sale.

Farther north, in Old Town—site of the first European settlement in California—shops in Mission-style stucco buildings sell colorful wrestling masks, woven baskets, and maracas. Nearby stands The Whaley House Museum, dubbed one of the Most Terrifying Places in America by the Travel Channel. Ghosts of former residents are said to inhabit the rooms, which are filled with Victorian furniture, eerie dolls, and squeegees for ectoplasm cleanup.

The room was sort of two rooms, with a seating area separated by double doors. This have it a bungalow feel. There was a microwave in the room and many nearby stores, so you can easily save money not eating out. Staff was attentive and friendly.

It's essentially a very large motel that has been updated and branded a Wyndham. The staff was professional and courteous. Our room was clean and fairly quiet. Although we were a few steps away from the ice machine, we were never disturbed. Our room had a mini-fridge and microwave, which were very convenient for us. Except for a clogged toilet, that was handled right away, we had a peaceful and uneventful stay. An added bonus, we could see SeaWorld's fireworks display from the walkway outside our room. The only tiny negative was the in-room wi-fi reception. Due to the half-wall that separates the bunk-beds from the King size bed, the signal was dampened. So I couldn't sit in bed and use the iPad. I had to take it elsewhere in the room, closer to the window. But once I figured that out, it got better.
