Western Jamaican Resort on Secluded, White-Sand Beach

Negril, Jamaica: Unspoiled Coastal Town near Snorkeling and Cliff Diving

Located on Jamaica’s western coast, the town of Negril and its pristine coastline still feels undeveloped and isolate despite the area’s resorts and hotels. Running along the town is Seven Mile Beach, a stretch of powdery, white-sand coastline that earned a spot on Frommer’s Best Beaches list. Here, you can scuba dive and snorkel along the Negril Marine Park’s protected reefs or cliff dive off the nearby West End Cliffs. Many choose to leap off the 35-foot cliffs at Rick’s Café, which was named in the book 1,000 Places To Go Before You Die for its front-row sunsets.

Located about 2.5 miles from the resort, Negril’s town center comprises two shopping areas and a craft market where visitors can pick up locally produced goods. Further inland, the mountainous terrain harbors a bounty of eco-tourism attractions including hiking, ziplining, and waterfall tours. Take a 60- to 90-minute drive east to the cascading YS Falls or to Mayfield Falls, where you can wade in 21 natural pools shaded by exotic tropical flowers and ferns.
