Family-Owned Vacation Condos near Colorado Skiing

Summit County, Colorado, is surrounded by the Rocky Mountains; it’s a famous destination in winter for its historic ski towns and resorts, especially Breckenridge. But it also contains the river valleys and Arapaho National Forest and the blue Dillon Reservoir, which are popular for cross-country skiing, ice fishing, and hiking. When you stay at Colorado Rocky Mountain Resorts, you can choose from various locations in Summit County—they have condos in the town of Frisco and on the edge of the Dillon Reservoir's Frisco Bay, as well as in the town of Breckenridge. When you arrive in the area, the ski season will be in full swing.

The upscale properties under the Colorado Rocky Mountain Resorts umbrella in Frisco and Breckenridge are all individually owned and cared for by their owners. There’s a homey feel to each of the properties. While amenities vary from one to the next, all are surrounded by mountains, and almost all are on the free Summit County shuttle route, which transports you and your skis to area towns and resorts, such as Arapahoe Basin, Copper Mountain, and Silverthorne. Many of the condos feature indoor fireplaces and patios, with rustic pine paneling and big, comfy couches. Each one has a fully equipped kitchen, too.

In Frisco, you might stay at a property such as the Mountainside D 107, a ski-lodge-style condo building five blocks from downtown Frisco with views of Mount Royal and Buffalo Mountain. Inside the one-bedroom flat, there’s a large, L-shaped sofa in the spacious living room, pine furniture, and a kitchen with a bar area. In the clubhouse area, you can unwind in a hot tub and sauna after a day out on the slopes. Alternatively, properties in Breckenridge include Highland Greens Lodge, a condominium building with 1,200-square-foot, two-bedroom, two-bath condos. In these, you’ll find a gas fireplace and nice views of the mountains, as well as a jetted tub in the master bathroom.

Frisco and Breckenridge, Colorado: World-Class Skiing and Historical Mountain Towns

Located 70 miles west of Denver and in the northern central part of Colorado, Frisco is a small mining town that was incorporated in 1880. The little town is nicknamed “Main Street of the Rockies” for its proximity to the mountains and its dedication to preserving its quaint charm. At Frisco’s Historic Park & Museum, admission is free and you can stroll past a preserved log chapel. Check out the Schoolhouse Museum here⎯it’s filled with old photographs of Frisco and artifacts from its past, such as vintage fashions.

Ten miles southeast of Frisco, you’ll find the famous ski town of Breckenridge. It’s known for Breckenridge Ski Resort, which has many runs and trails on four different mountain slopes fit for skiers of all levels. Founded in 1859 during a gold rush, Breckenridge also has quaint main streets filled with handicraft shops and restaurants, and the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance offers seven guided tours for visitors, among them a haunted tour of Breckenridge, a mine tour, and a saloon tour.
