Mission-Style Inn near Channel Islands National Park

The National Park Service compares California’s Channel Islands to the Galápagos Islands, as their isolated location has helped unusual species thrive and evolve. In addition to its 2,000 types of plants and animals, Channel Islands National Park claims 145 endemic species, including the island scrub jay, the island night lizard, and the Santa Cruz Island silver lotus. Located just 3 miles from the Pacific, Comfort Inn Oxnard acts as a home base for visits to these ecologically fascinating islands. From here, you’re within close proximity of seaside bike trails, beaches, and the boats in Channel Islands Harbor that head off to the national park.

Oxnard, California: Strawberry Capital of the World Along Pacific Coast

About 60 miles west of Los Angeles, Oxnard and its 7 miles of beaches spread out along the Pacific coast. Several paved cycling trails and bikeways run along the beachfront, connecting it to downtown Oxnard and past Channel Islands Harbor. From mid-June through mid-September, local boating tours search for the humpback and blue whales that typically come to the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary to feed on plankton.

California supplies nearly 85% of the country’s strawberries, and Oxnard is one of the state's largest producers, leading some to call it the Strawberry Capital of the World. While the town’s California Strawberry Festival is held every May, those missing the fest can still taste the area’s famous produce, as the harvest extends from late November to mid-July.
