Country Inn with Views of the Green Mountains
Deerhill Inn sits on the eastern edge of Green Mountain National Forest, surrounded by miles of rolling woodlands. Innkeepers Ariane Burgess and Scott Kocher have incorporated the country landscape into their bed and breakfast’s interior, with guest rooms named after local trees and flowers. Each room has a lovely view from an outdoor balcony or deck, facing either the Green Mountains or gardens dotted with wildflowers.
Cordon Bleu-trained chef Joshua Bartholomew helms the kitchen at the upscale Deerhill Inn restaurant, known for its seasonal farm-to-table cuisine. The dinner menu rotates often, and past courses have included buttermilk fried quail and five-spice diver scallops with starters including a Vermont cheese plate. Savory bites are even better when paired with a selection from the extensive wine list, lauded by Wine Spectator for its New World varietals.
The inn houses 13 individually decorated rooms, each equipped with a balcony or deck and free WiFi. Interior styles range from the rustic-contemporary Tamarack suite to the countrified Magnolia room, with wood-paneled walls and a cast-iron stove. In the morning, you'll get a cooked-to-order breakfast accompanied by freshly baked muffins, french toast, and local bacon. Canoeing, kayaking, and boating are available on rivers and lakes just 10 minute away, and hiking trails start only 5 minutes from the inn.
West Dover: Historical Town in Woodsy Southern Vermont
Tourists have been one of the primary sources of industry in the Mount Snow Valley since the early 1900s, and tradition remains strong today with activities in the mountains. The ski slopes are sometimes still open at Mount Snow ski resort at this time of year, but by April, visitors have turned their attention to the 18-hole Mount Snow Golf Club and the miles of rugged, single-track mountain-biking paths. Bikers can test their chops on trail obstacles such as dirt jumps, ladders, and tiger pits. Fishing is also popular along Deerfield River during trout season, which lasts from April to October.
