Tokyo City Tour
On your first full day in Tokyo, you’ll take a half-day guided city tour that visits some of Tokyo’s most famous sites, including Tokyo Tower, a 1,093-foot red-and-white structure that’s modeled after the Eiffel Tower. Next is the Imperial Palace, where the emperor of Japan resides. Visitors are not allowed inside, but you can wander through the gardens and see the remains of the 15th-century Edo Castle, once home to samurai warriors. You’ll see the brightly colored Asakusa Kannon Temple en route to Nakamise-dori Street, a popular shopping-and-entertainment district, where you’ll have plenty of time to browse boutiques and grab dinner before making your own way back to the hotel.
The next 3 days are yours to explore Tokyo at your leisure. There are optional tours available, including a full-day tour of Mount Fuji and the town of Hakone (about $165/person; includes lunch), and a full-day tour of the city of Nikko (about $145/person; includes lunch). You’ll be staying in the world’s largest metropolitan area, so there won’t be any shortage of things to do, see, and eat.
