Day 1: En route to Bogota

Flight time from Miami: 3.5 hours

    Days 2–3: Bogota

The capital city of Bogota has a long and rich history colored by its early inhabitants—members of the Chibcha tribe, and the Spanish conquistadors who arrived in the mid-16th century. Tour groups will see influences from both cultures during a guided city tour that visits an open-air market, a museum with one of the world's best collections of pre-Spanish gold crafts, and the main square: Plaza de Bolivar.

  • Take part in a local pastime: You'll watch a game of Tejo, the national sport of Colombia, which involves throwing metal discs into a wooden frame filled with clay, and at small, explosive targets that contain gunpowder.
  • Optional excursion: half-day tour of the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira, an underground cathedral carved out of a former salt mine ($80 per person)

    Days 4–5: Armenia

Smack dab in the middle of Colombia's coffee zone is Armenia, which produces some of the world's best java. You'll tour a coffee plantation on the first day, enjoying a guided tasting that includes tips on how to analyze the aroma, flavor, and body of coffee. The next day, head to the Cocora Valley to hike through a cloud forest inhabited by hummingbirds, yellow-eared parrots, and some of the tallest wax palms in the world.

  • Flight time from Bogota: 1 hour
  • Eat like a local: In the Cocora Valley, you'll stop at a trout farm to sample a local delicacy: smoked trout.

    Days 6–7: Cartagena

You can get breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea from this seaside town in northern Colombia. It's also home to a historic fortress called San Felipe Castle. Your group will tour this fortress's walls, tunnels, and galleries on a guided city tour that also visits a 17th-century monastery.

  • Flight time from Armenia: 1.5 hours
  • Optional excursion: full-day trip by boat to Rosario Islands, a national park with white-sand beaches, clear-blue waters, and colorful coral reefs ($100 per person, including lunch)

Day 8: En route to Miami

Flight time from Cartagena: 3 hours
