Day 1: Arrive in Guatemala City
You’ll depart from Miami and arrive in Guatemala City about three hours later. A tour guide will lead the way to Barcelo Guatemala City, a 4-star hotel with a heated outdoor pool and four restaurants. Guests have the rest of the day to relax or check out the surrounding boutiques and bars.
Day 2: Tour of Antigua
Tucked amid volcanoes and rolling hills, the town of Antigua is filled with restored colonial buildings and ruins. During a tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, you’ll see modern cathedrals and palaces on Central Plaza, a popular gathering spot adorned with fountains. In the afternoon, the tour heads north to Chichicastenango, or “Chichi.” You'll spend one night at the Mayan Inn, a boutique hotel decorated with Guatemalan art and vibrant fabrics.
Day 3: Chichicastenango to Lake Atitlan
In the morning, you’ll visit Chichi’s open-air market, where hundreds of vendors sell hand-woven textiles, wooden masks, fresh corn tortillas, and other colorful wares. Watch religious ceremonies performed on the front steps of the market’s renowned Church of Santo Tomas.
The next leg of the tour heads to the Guatemalan highlands and Lake Atitlan, a volcano-bordered body of water that U.S. News & World Report calls “arguably the most picturesque lake in the world.” Formed thousands of years ago in the crater of a massive volcano, it’s now Central America’s deepest lake.
Day 4–5: Leisure Day in Guatemala City
Guests have Day 4 to enjoy Guatemala City at their leisure. Known as “The Land of Eternal Spring,” Central America’s largest city is home to several noteworthy museums. One option is the National Museum of Ethnology and Archaeology, home to a stunning jade exhibit. You can also sign up for an optional city tour in the morning or a full-day jungle hike through Tikal National Park, past ancient ruins and magnificent Mayan temples (optional tours have extra fees).
