Trip at a Glance: Upscale Camping at the Grand Canyon Ranch
Night 1: Grand Canyon Ranch
A stay at Grand Canyon Ranch can feel like you've stepped back in time to the Old West. When night falls on the 165-acre working ranch, guests can gather around a campfire to listen to live banjo and guitar performances with Spirit Mountain in the backdrop. Surprise strummers have even included Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi.
- Accommodations: You'll spend the first night in a tepee tent atop the scenic Calvary Village hill on the ranch.
- Optional excursions include wagon rides, sunset champagne safaris, and helicopter flights that cross the Grand Canyon.
- Notable award: TripAdvisor's Certificate of Excellence in 2013
Night 2: Camping Beneath the Stars
On the second day, you'll be treated to the full camp-out experience. That afternoon, guests will saddle up for a daylong guided horseback ride past natural springs and through a joshua-tree forest. You'll eventually reach Turner Camp, where you can enjoy panoramic views of Iron Basin, Spirit Mountain, and the Music Mountains.
- Giddy up: Enjoy the trail ride with your own western quarter horse.
- Barbecue dinner: Dig in to barbecue eats around the campfire as campers listen to music and swap stories.
- Wake up to a cup of coffee before heading back to the Ranch House for a hearty breakfast.
Meadview, Arizona: Desert Landscape Surrounded by Red Rock Canyons
Grand Canyon West, a tourist destination owned by the Hualapai Nation, is just 15 miles east of Grand Canyon Ranch. Although the area is not a part of Grand Canyon National Park, it showcases similarly breathtaking views of striated red rock canyons and the Colorado River. Some of the best views are visible from the Skywalk, a U-shaped glass bridge suspended 4,000 feet above the canyon floor. While here, hike to scenic vistas or take a walking tour of authentic Native American dwellings, where you’ll see live performances.
Drive about two hours east to get to the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Largemouth and striped bass and bluegill crowd the lake’s waters, making it an ideal spot for canoeing, picnicking, and fishing.
