Laketown Hotel Close to Airport and Downtown New Orleans
In the early 20th century, Kenner, Louisiana, was mostly swampland bordering Lake Pontchartrain. It’s since become one of the New Orleans metro area’s most prominent suburbs. The international airport is here, only 15 miles from downtown New Orleans, and the lakefront now serves as a launching point for fishing charters and wildlife tours. Hilton Garden Inn New Orleans Airport overlooks Lake Pontchartrain and is only about 5 miles from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport; the hotel offers a complimentary airport shuttle.
Hilton Garden Inn New Orleans Airport’s outdoor pool helps kick-start a laid-back Louisiana getaway. The onsite Great American Grill prepares a fresh breakfast each day. At night, head to the Pavilion Lounge, stocked with a full bar, or walk over to the nearby Treasure Chest Casino.
Kenner, Louisiana: New Orleans Suburb with Cultural and Wildlife Attractions
Kenner was founded in 1855, when the land consisted of just three sugar plantations and swamps. There are still some bayous to the west where visitors can view alligators and other native wildlife, but the Kenner of today has much more to offer, including golf courses near Lake Pontchartrain and a casino housed inside a classic paddlewheel steamboat.
Many of the area’s cultural attractions center on the historic Rivertown district, which sits on the banks of the Mississippi River, where Kenner's earliest settlers built their homes. Head here to explore quirky museums and visit the Rivertown Repertory Theatre, where shows range from Neil Simon comedies to Tony-winning musicals such as Chicago.
Kenner is also a gateway to New Orleans. You can drive to The Big Easy in about 20 minutes and admire the old buildings in the historic French Quarter or hit Bourbon Street to take part in its renowned nightlife. During the day, visit the open-air French Market, which dates back to the 1790s as a trading post.
