Tucked at the end of a long country road, the 18th-century Inn at Whitewing Farm sits on an idyllic plot of land surrounded by trees. Take a stroll through the immaculate grounds and you’ll find a stocked pond, tennis court, putting green, and a hay barn, which was built in 1796. The barn is the setting for the complimentary breakfast spread, served daily from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. In the afternoon, innkeepers Lance and Sandy Shortt put out tea with sweet and savory treats.

It’s worth it to tour the lavish Brandywine Valley estates nearby, such as the French-villa-style Nemours Mansion and Gardens. The Brandywine Valley Wine Trail connects seven estate vineyards, some of which offer free tastings.
