- The majority of Day 1 will be spent on a flight to Istanbul. The flight takes 10–14 hours, depending on your departure city.
Days 2–3: Istanbul
- You’ll visit Topkapi Palace, the center of the Ottoman Empire. Its courtyards are adorned with rose gardens and reflecting pools, and the Treasury room has an 86-carat diamond and a sword inlaid with eight-pound emeralds.
- Another highlight: the Grand Bazaar, a marketplace with more than 4,000 shops and restaurants. Fragrant incense smoke hangs in the air here, and handwoven scarves are laid out on display.
Days 4–6: Gallipoli Peninsula
- You’ll check out Anzac Cove, which served as an important battle site during World War I.
- Troy was immortalized in Homer’s Iliad for its role in the Trojan War. You’ll visit these ruins as well as a replica of the wooden Trojan horse that the Greeks used to enter Troy.
- Ephesus is an archaeological site famous for its well-preserved temples and marble streets; while here, you’ll visit a stone cottage said to have been the home of the Virgin Mary.
Days 7–9: Pamukkale and the Turkish Riviera
- Pamukkale translates to “cotton castle” for its white travertine terraces naturally formed by mineral deposits from water that settled here. The waters flow from the natural hot springs at Hierapolis, a sacred city and UNESCO World Heritage Site perched above the city.
- Rocky coasts, waterfalls, and gorges make up Antalya, a gorgeous city on the Turkish Riviera. It’s close to Perge, home to the temple of Artemis.
Days 10–12: Ancient Roman Theaters and Cratered Cappadocia
- In the city Aspendos you can tour an ancient 15,000-person Roman theater that is one of the best-preserved on earth. Meanwhile, at the Mevlana Mausoleum, a green-domed lodge, you can see dervishes perform their traditional whirling dance.
- The New York Times calls Cappadocia “one of Europe’s most dramatic landscapes.” You’ll tour its expansive, cratered landscape that has been likened to that of the moon.
Days 13–14: Ankara
- The tour draws to a close with a visit to Ankara’s Museum of Anatolian Civilizations and its large collection of Hittite artifacts, including some that are nearly 8,000 years old.
- You’ll also have one more leisure day in Istanbul before flying home.
Day 15: Return Flight
- On the last day, you'll be transferred to the airport for your return flight to North America.
