Garden Retreat with Farm-to-Table Dining and Outdoor Yoga

Each morning at Lumeria Maui, guests are encouraged to join the sunrise meditation, a ritual that honors ancient Hawaiian traditions while nourishing your personal spirit. You can choose to stroll barefoot through the gardens, watch the sun rise over the Pacific Ocean, or sit and listen to birdsongs—anything that relaxes you. This quiet contemplation takes place in an idyllic setting, as the Lumeria Maui retreat sits on a secluded tropical garden in northern Maui, overlooking North Shore beaches and the Haleakala Volcano.

Fodor’s says that “Lumeria Maui’s original courtyard layout, lush grounds, and flowering gardens (many with fruit ripe for the picking) naturally complement the 24 luxury accommodations.” But the grounds serve another purpose beyond beautifying guest rooms. Chef Ben Diamond harvests the edible landscape for his farm-to-table dinner menus, which change daily. Each night, sample new dishes prepared from mahi-mahi, Pacific steelhead trout, and other local fish and seasonal produce. In the morning, a complimentary breakfast of organic fruits, yogurt, and granola starts the day.

Each day during your stay, you can pull up a mat at any one of the retreat’s yoga classes for free. Choose from Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and a few other styles. Sessions take place either inside a private studio or on an 8,000-square-foot outdoor terrace. This Getaway also includes one or two lomi lomi massages, a traditional Hawaiian therapy that uses long, rhythmic strokes to unite the mind, body, spirit, and spirit animal. Also included is an aromatherapy class, where you can learn about the medicinal benefits of Hawaiian essential oils.

Paia, Hawaii: Colorful Coastal Town with World-Class Windsurfing

Paia is a small, surfing town on Maui’s north coast, about 2.5 miles from Lumeria Maui. The town’s colorful boulevards are just minutes from Ho’okipa Beach Park, nicknamed the “windsurfing capital of the world” because it draws professional windsurfers and kite surfers in the winter months. In the summer, the roiling surf subsides, and the beach becomes a serene spot for snorkeling and sunbathing. While you’re here, check out the Paia Fish Market, a local favorite for its famous mahi-mahi burgers.

Haleakala National Park lies about 30 miles away on the eastern part of the island. The park is home to hundreds of plant and animal species found only in Hawaii, including a colorful family of birds called honeycreepers. You can also keep an eye out for the bizarre Haleakala silversword plant, a rare succulent covered in tiny, silver hairs. Wander around the park’s subtropical rainforests to see freshwater pools and waterfalls, or hike to the summit of the 10,000-foot Haleakala Mountain, which is a dormant shield volcano.
