Hotel at a Glance: Marquis Villas Resort

When naturalist John Muir climbed San Jacinto Peak, he called the view "the most sublime spectacle to be found anywhere on this earth." Nowadays, it's much easier to see what Muir saw - every day, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway takes tourists up the steep escarpment to the mountain's summit. You can also reach the peak via a series of scenic trails. Located about 15 minutes from the tramway, Marquis Villas Resort has dramatic mountain views of its own and is within easy reach of the area's natural attractions.

  • Mountain surroundings: Native palm trees encircle the outdoor pool and hot tub and the San Jacinto peak makes a breathtaking backdrop
  • One-bedroom condos feature full kitchens, dining space, and either a balcony or a terrace
  • Explore Palm Springs: The resort is a short drive from the city's celebrity homes, family-friendly museums, and international restaurants

Palm Springs, California: SoCal Resort Town with Midcentury Charm

Palm Springs is an oasis of outdoor recreation and old Hollywood glamour about 100 miles east of Los Angeles. Once the stomping grounds of Elvis Presley and the Rat Pack, the town still attracts A-list vacationers. Strolls through the Movie Colony take visitors past the former homes of Dean Martin, Bob Hope and Marilyn Monroe. Furniture and clothing boutiques along Palm Canyon Drive embrace Palm Springs' trademark aesthetic - what might be called Mad Men West.

The sun shines more than 300 days a year in Palm Springs, which means people can golf or hike in the nearby Agua Caliente Indian Canyons no matter the season. On the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, cars rotate 360 degrees as they carry passengers to Mount San Jacinto's Mountain Station, located 8,516 feet above sea level. About 40 miles northeast is Joshua Tree National Park, which spans parts of the Colorado and Mojave Deserts. The 12 nature trails give hikers the chance to see desert bighorn sheep and black-tailed jackrabbits.

great location, walkable towards the main area strip we enjoyed our stay i'd say 80% of it was great. the location was ideal as it was close to everything that you'd want to enjoy (restaurants, sightseeing) when it's not crazy hot, but that's palm springs for ya! the other percent is just a FYI on little things. the AC doesn't stay on all the time since it's set on auto, so if you run hot like my husband and myself, keep that in mind. it is an older building so that's probably why. It's still a great rate to stay at in the city though and free parking which is even better! space overall is great, it can definitely accommodate another couple and a few kids if you want, but it's big enough where you have space in the kitchen to cook and hangout in! the pool, sadly we haven't had the chance to use that as it was taken up by constant parties with multiple families the whole time unless you get there REALLY early then you may have a chance to use it.

Unpleasant Experience I primarly gave the Marquis the score i gave due to the poor service with the Air Conditioning not working and the staff showed no remorse and tried nothing to make my experience better. I spent too much mone to stay at what i thought was a nice resort in Palm Springs to not have the air conditioner working for several days and i was just supposed to be okay with this. When i have time i will be writing a letter to the Coorporate and wish to be contacted about the matter.

Didn't Quite Meet My Expectations Staff was excellent, but the air conditioning was a problem. We were told it was being fixed, but by the time we woke up it was 85 degrees in our room. We told the staff and they got on it. (It was fixed promptly.) The room was very clean, but tired. Curtains were badly stained as were portions of the carpeting. The dining table had paint chips missing. The beds were good and it was quiet. I just expected the room to be more attractive and not, well, be sort of ugly.
