Modern, Spacious Suites with Ocean Backdrops

When you’re not lounging around North Myrtle Beach’s lovely shoreline, you can get a nice panoramic view of it from the rooftop patio area at Prince Resort. It’s nine stories high and looks out to Cherry Grove Pier, where fishermen cast out for the prized king mackerel. You can also just stop at the patio to unwind in a hot tub. In fact, Prince Resort has two beachfront towers; both feature spacious, condo-style suites, one oceanfront and one with an ocean view. The airy ocean-view suites, which come in one-bedroom and two-bedroom iterations, both feature separate living areas with simple, modern furnishings, including a couch, dining table, and armchairs. In addition to the beds, you can accommodate any extra friends, relatives, or freeloading sea turtles on sleeper sofas. There’s also an in-suite washer and dryer and a full kitchen. If you’re in the mood to dine out, you can head to the onsite 3500 Ocean Grill, which plates peel-and-eat shrimp and pretzel-crusted crab cakes among other local delicacies.

North Myrtle Beach is at the tip of South Carolina's Grand Strand, a 60-mile stretch of white, sandy beaches along the Atlantic seaboard that draws surfers, fishers, and kayakers. In North Myrtle Beach itself, you can find the newly renovated Cherry Grove Pier, which extends 985 feet into the Atlantic. It bustles with activity during the annual fishing season, which runs through December 1. Rent a rod nearby to step up alongside veteran anglers, or leave the catch of the day to nearby restaurants that serve up cooked-to-order crabs, shrimp, and fish.

Southwest of North Myrtle Beach is Myrtle Beach itself, which was named one of the best vacation spots in the United States for a family by USA Today, in part because of its wooden boardwalk, which stretches for more than a mile and buzzes with carnival games and amusement-park rides. Hop into the SkyWheel Ferris wheel’s glass-floored gondolas, surrounded by more than a million LED lights, for a panoramic view of the city below.

Less than 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach, the tiny fishing village of Murrells Inlet provides a tranquil contrast to the boardwalk's hustle and bustle. At Brookgreen Gardens, more than 1,400 original sculptures stand amid sprawling floral gardens and massive, moss-covered oak trees that have been around for centuries. Murrells Inlet is also home to the Tom Fazio–designed TPC Myrtle Beach golf course, 1 of more than 100 courses in the area that helped Myrtle Beach earn its title as the seaside golf capital of the world.
