Condo-Style Suites near Lake Winnipesaukee

The shoreline of Lake Winnipesaukee stretches along more than 280 miles of sandy coast and spans 28 miles across. It’s the biggest lake in New Hampshire, populated by hundreds of miniature, tree-studded islands and dozens of beaches and secluded coves. For years, families have flocked here for the relaxed attitude and abundance of summer boating and fishing spots. Summit Resort, just a half mile from the water’s edge, provides easy access to the seasonal lake activities.

The hotel plays host to aquatic action of its own inside its 25,000-square-foot amenities center, replete with a large heated pool, a slide, and a stone waterfall grotto that gives way to an enormous roman spa and sauna. When the weather warms up, you can also take a dip in the outdoor pool. For a quick workout, head to the fitness center's racquetball courts while kids lasso tetherballs on the children's playground.

The resort's two-bedroom standard and deluxe suites recall home with a full kitchen, an in-room washer and dryer, a private, furnished balcony, and poorly wrought refrigerator art.

Laconia, New Hampshire: Boating and Motorcycle Central

Laconia is the largest town along Lake Winnipesaukee, and it sits in central New Hampshire, in the heart of the Lakes Region. The town has been a vacation destination for more than a century due to its laid-back boating culture, which enjoys easy access to the largest lake in the state, and family-friendly attractions, such as a three-story arcade and bumper carpool lanes. Eight miles from the hotel, Gunstock Mountain offers winter skiing and summer biking and hiking. It’s also home to a new adventure park where you can zipline through tree canopies on the fourth-longest zipline in the world and explore wooded trails on off-road Segway tours.

This summer, the city continues one of its biggest traditions as host of the Laconia Motorcycle Rally. From June 8 to June 16, leather-clad riders celebrate the event’s 90th anniversary with live roadhouse music, vintage bike shows, and races at the nearby motor speedway.
