Historical Victorian Inn near Delaware River
The Mansion Inn has stood along New Hope's Main Street for nearly 150 years. In fact, you might say the inn—built in 1865 by a local businessman for his beloved wife—is somewhat of a celebrity in town. Set amid landscaped gardens just steps from the Delaware River, the elaborate Victorian mansion has appeared in McCall’s Magazine and on TLC and has been the inspiration for several paintings.
Intricate scrollwork accents the inn's veranda, which leads to a vintage arched doorway. The elegant, fully restored interior features red pinewood floors and original brass work. Most guest rooms are in the main house, though some are in the garden cottage. Each is individually decorated with period furniture. Many have a wooden four-poster bed, a gas or electric fireplace, a kitchenette, and a private porch.
New Hope, PA: Historical Town Along Delaware River
The peaceful town of New Hope sits on the banks of the Delaware River, about an hour outside Philadelphia and just a half hour northwest of Trenton, New Jersey. New Hope has always moved at a more leisurely pace than its cosmopolitan neighbors. It started out as a milling town dotted with just a few simple farmhouses. Today, downtown New Hope's old-fashioned cobblestone streets are lined with antiques dealers, curio shops, and boutiques selling handmade crafts.
Just across the Delaware in New Jersey lies the romantic town of Lambertville. The hilly hamlet is home to covered bridges and eclectic art galleries housed in rustic barns and repurposed factory buildings. In warmer months, the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park makes a nice spot for canoeing and bike riding.
