Visit Taj Mahal, Ancient Forts, and Colorful Bazaars During Tour of India

Built in 1727 as one of the princely states ruled by the Maharajas, Jaipur is now India's capital of accessories, home to a marketplace that Travel + Leisure named one of the World's Coolest Bazaars. Here, you’ll find gems the size of a fist, silks in every color imaginable, and jewelry makers who come from generations-long lines of craftsmen. During Recherché Journeys nine-day, seven-night tour of India, you can shop Jaipur's bazaar for trinkets and see the elaborate City Palace before visiting Taj Mahal and several other landmarks of India’s Golden Triangle.

Days 1–4: After arriving in New Delhi, India's capital city, you'll be driven to The Lalit, a luxury hotel in the heart of the city's commercial district. From here, visitors can experience both the twisting skyscrapers of modern Delhi and the historic walled city where the Mughal emperors reigned. Highlights include the red sandstone Qutb Minar tower and the Red Fort, once the seat of the Mughal empire during the mid-16th century.

Days 5–6: The tour heads from Delhi to Jaipur, where accommodations will be at the five-star Jaipur Marriott Hotel. Jaipur is known as the "Pink City" because of the terra-cotta-colored walls, buildings, and temples in the old part of town. During a city tour you'll visit the centrally located City Palace, an ornate complex of gardens and courtyards. Later, head to the Jantar Mantar, an observation site where 18th-century scientists used monumental-size instruments to make astronomical measurements.

Days 7–9: A drive to the ancient city of Agra includes a stop for lunch at one of the state of Rajastha’s smallest towns. You'll spend the night at Jaypee Palace Hotel and explore Agra in the morning with a stop at the world-famous Taj Mahal, a marble mausoleum built by a Mughal Emperor to honor his wife. The tour also includes stops at other UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the Agra Fort, a walled city just a few miles to the north of Taj Mahal.

You'll be driven back to Delhi in time to catch an early morning international flight back to the United States on the ninth day.
