Mountain Views and Microbrewery Less than a Mile from Winter Park Resort
The action-packed fun at Winter Park Resort extends well beyond ski season thanks to a slew of warm-weather activities. Visitors can careen down the mountain on Colorado’s longest alpine slide, play a round at the 20-hole disk-golf course, or do flips and twists at the Leaps and Bounds Bungee Center, which features four trampolines. The city is also regarded as one of the best mountain-biking spots in the western U.S., with more than 600 miles of marked trails. Guests staying at Winter Park Mountain Lodge, located across the street from the resort, enjoy easy access to this outdoor playground.
You can see Winter Park Resort and all its glory from inside the lodge's rustic Moffat Station Restaurant and Brew Pub. Weathered yokes and old-west-themed decor lend the room a homey feel, and the fare is equally comforting; locally sourced entrees include hearty buffalo meatloaf, and there’s a selection of house-brewed beers.
The lodge's mountain-view rooms feature floor-to-ceiling bay windows that look out onto the surrounding peaks. You can also enjoy the scenery from the indoor pool area, which includes two 10-person hot tubs.
Winter Park, Colorado: Year-Round Outdoor Adventures and Quaint Shops in Picturesque Ski Village
Winter Park Mountain Lodge occupies the village's Main Street, just a short shuttle ride from Winter Park Resort. Though ski season is slated to start November 14, 2013, the park's surrounding mountains and forests still offer plenty to explore off-season. In autumn, you can see native aspens turn rich hues of red, gold, and orange on a 5-mile round-trip hike of Columbine Lake, which is skirted by the Continental Divide.
With 350 inches of snowfall annually, Winter Park Resort transforms into an alpine playground in winter. The Mary Jane portion of the resort includes three mountains, with the namesake peak proffering legendary mogul runs that start at 11,000 feet above sea level.
Winter also brings ice-skating and horse-drawn-carriage rides to downtown's quaint Cooper Creek Square. At the walkable outdoor mall, you can browse hand-painted russian nesting dolls or paint your own ceramic pottery.
