Choose Between Two Options

  • $17 for four Salsa 101 classes (a $35 value)
  • $32 for eight Salsa 101 classes (a $70 value)

One-hour Salsa 101 classes teach groups fundamental skills such as timing, footwork, and leading and following; these skills blossom into simple dance patterns and combinations set to the pulsating beats of Latin music. No partner is necessary, but instructors recommend that students wear shoes that don't easily slip off. Classes are held on Thursdays at 7 p.m. at Madison Ballroom Dance Studio.

Gabriela Dance

Dance instructor Gabriela Gonzalez calls upon more than nine years of experience to lead high-energy classes that compel groups of as many as 50 students to shake, spin, and sweat while learning the principles of styles such as ballroom and salsa. Gabriela’s bilingualism allows her to conduct classes or private sessions in English or Spanish, leaving no student charged with the task of interpreting her lightning-quick body language as she teaches such skills as leading and following, dance steps, and transitions. Most group classes welcome students of all skill levels, and since no partner is necessary, they're a fantastic way to socialize. More advanced classes cater to competitive dancers and tend to focus on fancy footwork, dance-floor etiquette, and proper stage-diving form.

The Groupon Guide to: Baseball Lingo

In addition to reading excerpts from Brian Dennehy’s Wikipedia page, baseball announcers make broadcasts interesting for viewers by using colorful slang to describe what’s going on in the game. Here are some phrases you might hear the next time you're tuning in to baseball on the television:

Circus Catch: When a catch is made by a player who applies red lipstick to his nose before every game
Dying Quail: A line drive hits a pretty-looking pigeon
Mendoza Line: When an entire team is composed of players whose last and first names are Mendoza
Can of Corn: A player who looks like he could fit into a 128-ounce can of corn
Cup of Coffee: A pitch that makes a catcher yell, “Ooh, so hot!”
Barrel of Omelets: A home run
Full of Salt: Player makes a face as though someone just threw a handful of salt into his eyes
Brown Teeth in the Mouth: When it rains and the bases get muddy
Wheelhouse: A good name for a baseball-themed bar
The Artificial Moon’s Shining for All the Swingy Mens Who Keep Doing Things Against Each Other: Stadium lights are on
