Questions and Answers

Is there any significant difference between this v4.0 and the latest v5.0 advertised in Costco.com for $59?

Roger M. asked 1 year, 1 month, 2 days, 9 hours, and 46 minutes ago - 2 answers

Customer Support

The main difference is that 5.0 has motion menu and background audio options, and the 5.0 also includes the RCA cable. Otherwise, they are very similar.

Hi Roger, besides the changes in the way the user interface looks, there are not many differences between the 4.0 and 5.0 versions. For a full list of differences between the VHS to DVD 4.0 and 5.0 versions, we recommend using the ‘Comparison’ tab on the VHS to DVD 5.0 Deluxe web page (link below). http://www.honestech.com/main/vhs-to-dvd-50-deluxe.asp

Can I convert my VHS to a digital file on my harddrive instead, like an .avi? I watched the tutorial already and doesn't mention it.

VHS to DVD is a PC software with a USB capture device. It will record from any video player you connect to the capture device via S-video or RCA/composite cables.

Why can this not be mailed to PO Box? I live in remote area and we do not have street addresses or courier delivery.

Carol S. asked 1 year, 1 month, 2 days, 10 hours, and 17 minutes ago - 1 answer

Customer Support

Many carriers are not allowed to deliver to PO Boxes due to restriction made by the postal services. We are sorry but if you can maybe perhaps provide us with your family or friend's shipping address, you may be able to receive the product through them.

with this software, is it possible to plug my old video camera directly into the input? I do not own a VCR; I do have rca cable

julie w. asked 1 year, 1 month, 2 days, 10 hours, and 20 minutes ago - 1 answer

Customer Support

Yes, as long as you have the right cable for your camcorder (usually a 3.5mm to RCA cable) to connect your camcorder to the USB capture device.

Can this unit copy protected VHS tapes. Commercial Movies etc.

Bruce R. asked 1 year, 1 month, 2 days, 10 hours, and 22 minutes ago - 1 answer

VHS to DVD 4.0 Deluxe will convert any tape as long as you have a video player (i.e. VCR or camcorder) that can play the tape and has RCA/composite output jacks. It is up to the user to determine the legal aspects of it though. Please make sure that your Windows PC has a DVD writer if you want to convert the movies to DVDs.

Sounds like I need to have the device to play the original outgoing tape [ie. camcorder for 8mm, or VHS machine for by VHS tapes]... before I can utilize this system. [neither of which i have but want to transfer both to DVD] Is this true?

I'm a bit unclear about the RCA cord statement. Does everyone need to have this cord to operate the system? If so, how can I get one? At what cost?

VHS to DVD 4.0 Deluxe is a PC software with a USB capture device. The RCA cable is used to connect your VCR to the USB capture device. An RCA cable has yellow, red and white connectors, and it can be purchased from a local electronics store including Radio Shack and Best Buy for a few dollars.
