It will provide a comfort layer but it is not rigid so it will conform to the shape of the foundation below it. If your mattress sags it will cause the pad to sag as well.

Yes you can place it on top of any mattress. Whether it will fit under your mattress cover depends on the size of the cover. This will add 3" but it compresses so it will usually fit under the cover that you currently have.

A very slight smell from the packaging which will dissipate after opening. Nothing like the old traditional memory foam!

There is no post fire retardant treatment on our mattresses. Our prorprietary fire retardant treatment is built into the memory foam itself. Our mattresses pass the Federal 1633 regulation that is an entire mattress burn test. No toxic fire retardant chemicals are used at all.
