If these earrings are exposed to water (as in showering everyday with these earrings on) or swimming pool chlorine will they rust or blacken?

Regular water will not affect the items. Chlorine from pools can, which would cause you to need to clean the items with dish soap, warm water, and a soft toothbrush.

What does Swarovski elements mean?

Element" refers to either Crystal or Zirconia in the Swarovski line. This is Swarovski Zirconia, the finest of ALL that they carry; thus, EACH gemstone IS laser inscribed.

These are made with 925 Sterling Silver and overlaid with Platinum. Thus, it will not turn black. It is very nice, however, and worth much more than you are paying for the items.
