Hi Greg. You should replace the filter cartridge at least monthly with a Whisper Bio-Bag Small Cartridge. These are available anywhere aquarium filters are sold (specialty pet stores, larger retail merchants, online merchants).

This tank has a Tetra Whisper 3i Internal Filter. It does not come with a heater, but it is easy to add a small heater like our Tetra HT10 heater. The cover is removable and has slots for the cords.
