A Bravo! Christmas
Bravo! Vancouver's 60-voice chorale doesn't believe in spending the holidays alone. For their Christmas fundraiser, they welcome the Michael Kissinger Jazz Quartet on stage with them to add its groove to a smattering of classic carols. And they get the audience in on the action, too. Attendees of all ages unleash their inner baritones and sopranos as they sing along to "Jingle Bells," "Silent Night," "Joy to the World," and more. With so many voices in unison, it should hardly be a surprise if Santa stops by, prompting audiences to break into a melodious recitation of their Christmas lists.
The Bravo! Vancouver chorale stays busy. Since its start in 1993 it has presented more than 100 concerts to more than 40,000 audience members and has grown to include 60 members. Weaving classical music with jazz and chamber music, the chorale brings the work of greats such as Brahms and Bach to the Northwest, and even travels to such far-off locales as Croatia. It often focuses its concerts on the major chorale works of the 18th through the 20th centuries, including Haydn's Creation and Mendelssohn's St. Paul Oratorio, while excluding Beethoven's little-known The ABC Song.
