In a Nutshell

Audiences find themselves drawn into an interactive Irish funeral, listening to stories and songs from an ensemble of colorful characters

The Fine Print

Without the applause of an audience, actors have no way of knowing how well they've died. Stand and ovate with this GrouponLive deal to see Flanagan’s Wake at Actors Theater of Minnesota. For $24, you get general admission for two (a $49 value). The show runs March 8–30 on Fridays and Saturdays at 9:30 p.m., and on Sundays at 7:30 p.m.

Flanagan is dead, and the villagers of Grapplin, Ireland, pay tribute to him the only way they know how; a raucous evening of stories, songs, and stouts. During this interactive Irish wake, audiences come to the bar to toast the dearly departed and converse with an ensemble of colorful characters, whether they’re offering condolences to the stony Mother Flanagan or the grieving fiancée, Fiona Finn. Attendees can also listen to the tales woven by County Sligo’s foremost writer, Mickey Finn, and Flanagan’s best friend, Brian Ballybunion, or share their own memories of the deceased’s exploits. Some may find themselves caught between the warring beliefs of Father Damon Fitzgerald and the pagan Kathleen Mooney, or shaking hands with Mayor Martin O’Doul.

Actors Theater of Minnesota

Although it’s known for comedies such as the two-man, 24-character A Tuna Christmas, Actors Theater of Minnesota also places a significant emphasis on education and corporate training. At The Creative Institute, the ensemble trains students how to work theatrical media such as improv and writing into their everyday problem-solving skills.

The Groupon Guide to: Valentine's Day Leftovers

For some people, the most difficult thing about Valentine's Day is deciding what to do with all the leftovers. Here are some suggestions of what to do with the day-after detritus:

  • Melt down chocolates and put them in little ghost-shaped molds to start stocking up for Halloween.

  • Once roses start to wilt and dry out, use their thorns to make devil horns for a naughty dog or precocious toddler.

  • Diamond shavings are glitter.

  • Recycle a Valentine's Day card by crossing out the part that says "Lisa, I will always love you. You are my angel and my strength" and writing "Deepest sympathies on the anniversary of your terrible comeuppance!"

  • Leftover candy hearts? More like delicious croutons!

Sweet croutons, this salad is good!
