Alabama

In 1982, Alabama won their first American Music Award for "Favorite Country Band/Duo/Group." Winning that award became a running gag in an unprecedented streak that continued—minus a few hiccups—until 2003. The accolades are plentiful for the veteran performers: a few Grammys, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, induction into the Vocal Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame, uncountable high fives from adoring fans. Yet Alabama is the rare award-stockpiling act that actually deserves the hoopla. The hooks that fueled 43 number one singles and sold over 73 million records are undeniable, and the harmonies of lead singer Randy Owen, multi-instrumentalist Jeff Cook, and bassist Teddy Gentry are as warm and fuzzy as their signature beards. They're a country band for country fans that miss the days when country sounded like country, and they're a country band that rock fans can cherish unapologetically.

It's been eleven years since the band's last major outing on their "Farewell Tour." Thankfully the word "farewell" no longer exists in the lexicon, and Alabama is back to celebrate their 40th anniversary on the "Back to the Bowery" tour. Harkening back to the band's humble beginnings playing for tips at the Bowery in Myrtle Beach, the band is eschewing impersonal arena shows on this trip for more intimate venues. While the setlist could include any number of hits from their storied career, Alabama might showcase fiddle-and-harmony heavy favorites such as "Tennessee River," "Feels So Right," and their signature song "My Home's in Alabama."

Toyota Presents Oakdale Theatre

Once the site of an alfalfa field, the original Oakdale sprang up during the theater-in-the-round craze of the 1950s. Its spinning stage drew stars such as Harry Belafonte, The Who, and Led Zeppelin, who all serenaded the open-air crowds of the ‘60s while simultaneously completing their gyroscope training for Apollo shuttle missions. In 1997, the Oakdale Theatre was made over into its current, 4,600-seat arrangement, which has ushered in a new generation of entertainment stars ranging from Barney to Britney.
