In association with Palmgrass.org, also known as The Acoustic Music Society of Southwest Florida, the Palmgrass Bluegrass Fest orchestrates a daylong bluegrass bonanza that keeps toes tapping to live sets by seven energetic acts. Lexington-based quintet NewTown roll into the neighborhood to headline the show with a giant magnifying glass and singer Kati Penn’s sunny soprano, weaving in and out of the sonic tapestries plucked and strummed by her bandmates. Proudly representing the Sunshine State, Keith Bass & the Florida Bluegrass Express warm up the audience, dazzling listeners with Bass’s award-winning banjo playing and a strong foundation of mandolin, fiddle, guitar, and bass.

Among the day’s opening acts, the Bugtussle Ramblers, the New River Boys, and Swinging Bridge all splash their own musical styles onto vintage bluegrass songs and originals, and Ernie Evans and the Florida State Bluegrass Band charm listeners with the lilting harmonies of tracks such as “I’m Building on the Rock of Ages” and “Life’s Railway to Heaven.” Bill Metts and Friends open the show, exhibiting Metts’s finger-picking guitar style honed over years of playing songs by Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Mississippi John Hurt. In between sets, hungry attendees wanting a condiment mustache can flock to The Nosh Truck for gourmet food truck eats and Captain Bob's Smoking to Go BBQ homestyle barbecue.

Alliance for the Arts

The Alliance for the Arts' concerts, exhibitions, and art classes have become a staple for the aesthetically inclined since the institution's founding in 1975. The center’s three art galleries elicit awe with ongoing exhibits, and its educational programs inspire students to express their feelings through painting and drawing. The Alliance’s schedule of events keeps fans of the performing arts intrigued with plentiful music festivals and dance recitals.
