Method Man & Redman
Although they go by many monikers—Red & Meth, Meth & Red, Doc & Meth, (ambient bird whistling), and Mr. Mef and Funk Doc—Clifford Smith and Reggie Noble are best known as the prolific rap super-duo Method Man & Redman. Before their mega-selling solo careers, before Grammy-winning Method Man helped found the Wu-Tang Clan and Redman joined Def Squad, these two hip-hop icons knew each other as kids. That deep-seeded connection serves them well as they volley lyrics back and forth across stage like a linguistic Ping-Pong ball. Redman's deft, fluid voice weaves in and out of Method's raspy grit, as they amp up parties with rhymes focused on the party itself, culture, and pastimes held dear by Cheech and Chong.
The two have contributed to each other's solo albums countless times and come together for musical magic twice, releasing 1999's Blackout! and, 10 years later, Blackout! 2. That most recent effort followed up the first's "How High" with hits such as "A-Yo" and "Mrs. International," prompting Entertainment Weekly to declare that "they trade pop culture jokes and sly bluster over sturdy boom-bap beats as if East Coast rap's late-'90s renaissance never ended."
