Elvis Comeback to Hawaii
There are so many chapters in the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s life, sometimes it takes three impersonators to do it justice. At the Elvis Comeback to Hawaii tribute, a trio of spot-on doppelgängers animates three of the Big E’s greatest eras in a concert certain to satiate even the most rabid Elvisphile. The show centers on Phoenix’s own Jim Westover as he recreates moments from the famous 1973 Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite TV special, a watershed event that reached an estimated 1.3 billion viewers worldwide. Decked out in the “American Eagle” jumpsuit, Jim recreates Aloha gems, which may include “Suspicious Minds” and “A Big Hunk o’ Love.” Swapping jumpsuits for skintight black leather, Elvis clone Will Humbarger takes on the King’s 1968 comeback TV special, in which the Big E fought off the British invasion with stripped down rockabilly and gospel. Completing the evening’s trilogy, Daniel Jenkins dons the blue suede shoes of the 1950s Elvis, swiveling his hips with abandon now that the FCC no longer censors reality.<p>
Arizona Event Center
Wanting to see more art, music, and entertainment in their town, a few local businessmen decided to take matters into their own hands and build a venue flexible enough to host all three. Their creation—the 30,000 square foot Arizona Event Center—boasts three stages between the back theater and front pavilion, comfortably hosting up to 4,000 guests at any given time. They rent the versatile space out for concerts, sporting events, trade shows, comedy nights, and even weddings, enhancing each experience with a professional lighting and sound system.
While the place itself is already impressive, the owners supplement its intrinsic charms with local business partnerships. The Mesa Police Department oversees certain security duties, liquor and energy drink companies supply complementary goods as advertisements, and Clean Air Cab makes sure that plenty of vehicles are on hand to ferry away partiers who took advantage of the full bar or donated their rides to a monster truck rally.
