The Scouting Report

With the postseason looming on the icy horizon, the Arizona Sundogs find themselves in a hotly contested race for the Central Hockey League's eighth and final postseason berth. Through 56 games, the Sundogs have amassed 55 points, one more than the ninth-place Bloomington Blaze and one fewer than the seventh-place Quad City Mallards—both of whom have only played 55 games. Fortunately, the Sundogs will have a chance to finish the season strong with a five-game homestand featuring two tilts against the second-place Wichita Thunder and a three-game set against the Texas Brahmas—contests in which they could be deking, passing, and shooting with their season on the line.

One of the league's top 15 scorers, forward Chad Nehring has paced the Sundogs' offensive production all season long, amassing a total of 28 goals and 22 assists while appearing in every game. On the other end of the ice, goaltender Adam Russo has posted a respectable .911 save percentage in 31 games this season, deflecting pucks with fast reflexes and flashy jazz hands.

Arizona Sundogs

A Double-A minor-league affiliate of the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes, the Arizona Sundogs work to develop players’ skills for the next level as they compete against fellow up-and-comers in the Central Hockey League. Since their founding in 2006, the Sundogs have brought plenty of ice-shredding glory to Arizona hockey fans, including a CHL championship in 2008. Burnie the Sundog cheers on the rapid-fire action from his perch at Tim's Toyota Center, which boasts 5,100 seats and a pair of jumbo screens for replays that highlight big goals and small gestures of true sportsmanship.

The Groupon Guide to: Playground Games

Although scientists have tried to quash children's dangerously powerful imaginations with high-tech video games and distracting pocket telephones, they have still been unable to fully eliminate these popular technology-free schoolyard games:

Red Rover: Two opposing chains of locked-arm children take turns volleying sacrificial members of their row toward the other chain in hopes of breaking it. The first team to be dragged into the pond loses.

Hidesies & Findsies: One player covers their eyes and counts as high as he is able to while the other players go hither and elsewhiles, squeezing themselves into hollow logs and crevices. The last player to be found is the winner, and it is now their turn to cover their eyes and be abandoned by their friends.

Freeze Tag: Regular tag played cautiously on the surface of a frozen lake

Red Light, Green Light: This imaginative game of stop and go allows children a safe outlet in which to exercise their secret desire to play in traffic. The winner is parents.
