In a Nutshell

Billboard-topping Neon Trees team up with hip-hop sensation Rita Ora for a night of dancing on a historic venue’s hardwood floors

The Fine Print

Bands often run back onstage for an encore, especially if the crowd is chanting for them or if security hasn't been able to capture the live animal running loose backstage. Go wild with this GrouponLive deal to see the 98.7 AMP Radio Kringle Jingle featuring Neon Trees and Rita Ora at The Fillmore Detroit. For $17, you get one G-Pass for general admission to the balcony on Sunday, December 16, at 7 p.m. (up to a $35 value, including all fees). Doors open at 6 p.m. Because the ticket is a G-Pass, Groupon customers can use it to enter the venue directly; they will not need to redeem their Groupon at will call.

Surfing a wave of sonic inertia, Neon Trees stampede the globe, engulfing fans in slick pop hooks and hard-hitting romanticism. Having blistered the Billboard Alternative charts with their anthem “Animal,” the rockers serenade audiences with an electric set featuring crowd-pleasers from their hit album, Habits. With fetching melodies and lyrical earnestness, Neon Trees strike nerves and pluck heartstrings to create an internal accompaniment to their energetic stage performances.

Before Rita Ora and Neon Trees take the stage, Conor Maynard, the British answer to Justin Bieber, charms crowds with his hip-hop-infused teen pop. His sweet delivery of love-drenched lyrics earned him first place in MTV UK’s Brand New for 2012 competition, an impressive feat considering he was up against the pouty-lipped pop sensation Lana Del Rey. Other opening acts include Ryan Beatty, a rising star whose spot-on cover of “Marry You” by Bruno Mars amassed more than five million views on YouTube, and The Cab, a four-piece emo-pop outfit hailing from Las Vegas.

Although she only just released her debut album, Ora, in 2012, British singer Rita Ora has already toured with Coldplay, collaborated with Drake and Kanye West, and impressed music mogul Jay-Z so much that he signed her to his Roc Nation label. The prolific artist, who blends pop with R & B and jazz, lays down her powerful pipes on pulsing tracks such as “R.I.P.,” “How We Do (Party),” and “Hot Right Now.” During her live shows, Ora alternates between inciting the crowd to dance and exposing her vulnerability as she talks about what inspires her and encourages fans to sing their journal entries to each other.

Due to security restrictions, G-Passes must be printed out and presented in person at the event. They cannot be redeemed through Groupon's mobile app.

The Groupon Guide to: Barbershop Chatter

The barbershop has gained a reputation for being the place to go for listening to all sorts of lively chatter. Here's a sampling of what you might hear your barber say next time you get a haircut:

  • "Take 2 inches off the top? Yep, that's something I can do when these casts come off."

  • "I've been thinking about labeling the scissor jar 'Scissors' and the comb jar 'Not Scissors.' Thoughts?"

  • "Ha! No, this isn't the kind of barbershop that sweeps up the hair clippings."

  • "Someone stole all of our magazines, but you can read this letter I've been meaning to send to my estranged wife."

  • "Welcome to the barbershop, where men are kings and kings are giants and giants are half off before noon."

Why are barbershops called "listen holes"?
