Venturing outside their respective home fields of the Carrier Dome and Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Syracuse Orange and USC Trojans meet on neutral ground, MetLife Stadium, for a rematch of last year's 38–17 USC victory on the West Coast. The Orange rally behind head coach Doug Marrone, the offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints during their ascendant 2006 season. He brings the same offensive knowhow he brought to Drew Brees in '06 to current Syracuse starting QB Ryan Nassib, who last year set the school's single-season records in completions and yards and found the end zone 22 times without even once passing the ball to a golden retriever. On the other side of the line of scrimmage, QB Matt Barkley leads the No. 1–ranked Trojans into battle hoping to secure the Heisman Trophy at year's end.

Home to the NFL's New York teams, MetLife Stadium brings the game to life with grandeur unlike anything on either college's home turf. In the corners of the arena, four 30'x118' HD video screens broadcast hard hits and long completions at titanic size, and more than 2,100 HD monitors relay the on-field action throughout the stadium, ensuring fans won't miss a moment of action while grabbing concessions or asking a mascot for fashion tips.
