Momentum

Every year, Ballet Nebraska shows off the adventurous breadth of its programming—from spare and elegant to funky and playful—in Momentum, its annual mixed-repertory program. One of the headlining works, Poseidon, takes its theme from the Joslyn Art Museum’s exhibit on the Greek god and world’s first oceanographer, and its neoclassical style from choreographer Matthew Carter. On the other end of the spectrum is Erika Overturff’s Party Animals, and it’s as exuberant as the title would suggest: dancers in African-animal costumes bound onto the stage to a soundtrack of infectious 1960s tunes.

Ballet Nebraska

As the only professional dance company of its kind in the region, Ballet Nebraska takes its mission to entertain and educate seriously. The company performs seasons of classic works and new favorites, pirouetting through The Nutcracker and mixed-repertory programs at area theaters and on tour. But the ballet’s greatest contribution to the community might be its education and outreach programs. The artists frequently host charity benefits, stage productions for students, and hold workshops on storytelling through movement at local libraries, where silent storytelling is a must.
