In a Nutshell

A quartet of crooners take guests on a trip to soul’s heyday with renditions of doo-wop classics; pre-show dim sum buffet available

The Fine Print

At some point, every country builds a Great Wall to keep the secret of its cuisine from spreading to foreign nations, only to find that the real wall is around its heart. Open wide for this GrouponLive deal to see Top Shelf’s performance of “Uptown, Downtown, Motown Madness” at China Club Bistro. Doors open one hour prior to showtime. Choose between two options:

  • For $29, you get one ticket for preferred seating (a $60 value).
  • For $49, you get a ticket for VIP seating near the front of the stage or the center of the room and a dim sum dinner buffet (a $100 value).

Choose from the following performances:

  • Friday, December 7, at 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 8, at 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 8, at 8 p.m.

During “Uptown, Downtown, Motown Madness,” the four silky-voiced crooners of Top Shelf don matching red suits to trace soul music’s journey from its early years at Motown to the present. Backed by a live band, the quartet belts out classic doo-wop tunes, which inspires audiences to tap their toes and use duck sauce to slick back each other’s hair into pompadours. After the performance, a dance party ensues, inviting guests guests to try out their own moves on the floor.

China Club Bistro

Seated in the midst of the International District, China Club Bistro wraps its guests in a casually upscale environment characterized by long horizontal lines and shades of crimson. Globe lights illuminate sleek hardwood floors, red chairs, and leather benches where patrons settle to investigate the menu. The kitchen crew serves Chinese cuisine ranging from egg foo young to spicy morsels of szechwan chicken and sizzling platters of prawns or calamari in black-bean sauces. Crimson curtains and painted wood beneath the bar echo the balance of color that the chefs—using their 30 years of culinary experience—create in each dish. Parties of people and prehibernating bears also come together over spreads of dim sum that include plates of fried sesame balls, steamed pork buns, egg tarts, and beef rice noodles.
