In a Nutshell

Beloved alt-rock vets return behind 11th album along with Blues Traveler, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, and Cracker

The Fine Print

Compared to smaller shows, major rock concerts can increase the energy of a crowd and decrease the suspicion that the drummer keeps mocking the way you move your arms when you dance. Join the friendly crowd with this GrouponLive deal to see the Last Summer on Earth tour, featuring the Barenaked Ladies, Blues Traveler, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, and Cracker, at Woodlands Pavilion in The Woodlands on Friday, July 20, at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Choose between the following seating options:

  • For $15, you get one ticket to the general-admission lawn (up to a $28.05 value, including all fees).
  • For $17, you get one ticket for seating in the back half of sections 104–111 (up to a $41.20 value, including all fees).

Canadian pop-rock troupers the Barenaked Ladies play ringmasters to a freewheeling circus of brainy pop, brawny blues, and carefree jams as the Last Summer on Earth tour lights up arenas and amphitheaters across the continent. On stage, they maintain their 20-year reputation as an engaging live act with tight but playful musicianship and gregarious repartee with their adoring audiences. Their hook-laced lyrical patter, bookworm wit, and mastery of the tone sequences that activate the brain's CD-buying centers steered '90s hits such as “One Week” and “If I Had a Million Dollars” into perpetual ubiquity.

Touring with a lean, four-man lineup behind its 11th studio album, All in Good Time, the band headlines a formidable posse of alternative-rock veterans. Blues Traveler, best known for runaway hits “Runaround” and “Hook,” celebrates its silver anniversary by digging into its hacky sack of sing-alongs, fueled by John Popper’s resuscitating gusts of harmonica. The venerable touring machine of Big Head Todd & the Monsters induces involuntary swaying with its blend of Delta blues, Motown soul, and Caribbean vibes. Rounding out the roster, David Lowery, Johnny Hickman, and the rest of the rootsy road warriors in Cracker continue to mix sardonic rockers such as the hit “Low” with jocular jams in the vein of “Eurotrash Girl."

The Groupon Guide to: A Rendezvous with Your Bosom Buddy

A happenstance rendezvous with a beloved bosom buddy can be the spoonful of sugar in an otherwise unseemly world. Here are some best-to-be-heeded tips to making the most out of an encounter with your beloved companions:

  • Make sure to bring plenty of nibbles for both you and your chumly bud’s tummies. Some teatime sandwiches like some Cucumber Babyfingers or Little Ham Lords should do, and why not some salted fudge for after-meal yums?

  • Appreciate nature with your cherished accomplice. Enjoy an après-lunch learnabout through an educational garden or listen to the songs of the whippoorwills. Just try not to cry at their resplendent beauty.

  • Take your prized pal for a ride in your coupe. Adhere to the speed limits to avoid a talking-to and bring a taffeta scarf for you and your sweet compatriot.

  • Play the harp together!

  • It would just be velvet-on-vicars to watch the Sunday football match with your prince of friends, would it not? I think the Chiefs really have a chance this year if Cassel can show up and Jamaal Charles can’t bounce back from his surgery. It’s gonna be a bruiser…

Here’s how to be a big weirdo.
