“Cirque Diavolo”

)

Diavolo Dance Theater’s “Cirque Diavolo” brings dreams into the waking world. Giant, industrial props become a surrealistic playground upon which acrobats, dancers, climbers, and actors clamor and fall. “To say Diavolo is exciting is redundant,” the LA Times praised, but the excitement is just one facet of the performance. Creator Jacques Heim uses his outfit to explore the dangers and anxieties of survival that have resulted from the world’s increasingly complex technology and proliferation of randomly placed bear traps. While exploring the boundaries of dance, he also examines the ironic and humorous behavioral patterns that humans have adopted to compensate. And for those efforts he has been rewarded with success. Not only has Diavolo Dance Theater found fans across the globe, but it has been officially recognized as a cultural treasure by its home city, Los Angeles.<p>

Count Basie Theatre

Upon entering the Count Basie Theatre, guests may feel as though they’ve slipped through a crack in time and ended up in the early 1900s. Opulent marble staircases and gold details grab the eyes of visitors, recalling the decadence of Hollywood’s history and gently pulling them to the auditorium. There, the acoustically pleasing construction wins out as sound spreads and funnels through a sunburst dome embellished with a dangling chandelier. Since opening in 1926, the Count Basie has earned numerous accolades, including a nod from Pollstar magazine, which listed it as one of the Top 100 Worldwide Theatre Venues.
