For more than two decades, Evangel Cathedral has dazzled the DC region with a Christmas pageant that blends music, dance, storytelling, and extravagant spectacle. This year, it turns its lasers and choir toward Easter for King of Kings!, an epic telling of the days of Jesus Christ. Like all the its original musicals, Evangel presents the story with live animals such as sentient Peeps, elaborate light displays, and a huge cast anchored by gospel stars like pastor Shirley Caesar (performing on Saturday), whose extensive musical career has seen her singing with Whitney Houston at the Grammy Awards. Other notables who belt amid the stage's exploding fountains of sparks and more than 125 cast members include Le'Andria Johnson (performing on Friday), Richard Smallwood, and pastor Beverly Crawford.
