In a Nutshell

Family-friendly holiday ballet regales audiences with the timeless tale of young Clara and her wooden nutcracker

The Fine Print

Ballet dancers spend an unusual amount of time on their toes, much like the coworker who creeps up behind your chair every day just to watch you for a while. Gaze at grace with this GrouponLive deal to see Evergreen City Ballet’s The Nutcracker at the Auburn Performing Arts Center. For $16, you get one ticket for reserved seating in the mezzanine or balcony section (up to a $31 value, including all fees). Choose from the following performances:

  • Saturday, December 8, at 7:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, December 9, at 1:30 p.m. or 5:30 p.m.

A yearly tradition for the young performers of Evergreen City Ballet, The Nutcracker tells the timeless story of little Clara and her enchanted Christmas present. After an exhausting family celebration, Clara drifts off to sleep beneath the Christmas tree, Nutcracker in arms, unaware that an army of rodents is waiting in the wings. But her toy leaps to life, and with the help of the rest of the Yuletide trimmings, the pair defeat the vile Rat King for good. The dashing, strong-jawed hero then takes his charge on a whirlwind tour of marvelous lands as Tchaikovsky’s score sweeps and blusters like a wintry wind, dropping in on a snowflakes’ ball and paying the Sugarplum Fairy a visit in her Land of Sweets. This production sets the stage with luminous scenery, including cascading snow, a bed that magically sails across the stage, and a big winter moon casting icy light across bare branches.

The Groupon Guide to: Things That Are Safe or Not Safe to Put in Your Mouth

Everything looks delicious these days, but only some things are actually safe to put in your mouth. Here's a guide to things that look good enough to eat:

Marbles: Safe
Reason: Rubbing marbles against your teeth will wear them down to rounded nubs that feel much better against the tongue.

Sponge: Not Safe
Reason: You'll put a nice, dry sponge in there, and when it comes out it's going to be full of saliva and completely unsanitary to wash dishes with.

Laundry-Detergent Pods: Not Safe
Reason: This yummy candy burns the mouth.

Universal Remote: Safe
Reason: Thousands of uniquely flavored buttons will make your taste buds feel like they’re at the greatest circus of their lives.

Bread: Not Safe
Reason: The worst hazard of them all—there is no way to breathe through bread.

Are there any foods that don't pose an immediate choking hazard?
