In a Nutshell

Crimson basketball and hockey teams continue their 2013 seasons during home games against conference opponents

The Fine Print

Hockey is the fastest paced of all major sports, because its players rush to complete the game before the ice field melts into vinegar. Enjoy the acidic thrill of competition with this GrouponLive deal for the Harvard Crimson men's and women's basketball and hockey teams.

The Scouting Report

The men's basketball team has been strong at home, putting up a 6–1 record in front of Crimson faithful behind sophomore Wesley Saunders's 16.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Freshman Jimmy Vesey has made a big impression on offense for the men's hockey team, scoring nine points so far this season, including two goals and one assist in his first college game. In women's athletics, the Crimson basketball team stands atop the Ivy League after averaging more than 70 points a game and shooting the lights out with their 41.5% three-point percentage and carefully concealed slingshots. Seniors Kelsey Romatoski and Kaitlin Spurling lead a women's hockey squad that’s dominating the ice with a 14–1–1 record that includes a 9–0 win at Union.

Harvard Crimson

Championships and distinguished alumni are both part of Harvard's 150-year athletic tradition that traces back to a wrestling match between sophomores and freshmen in 1780. Beyond their four NCAA championships in men's hockey, women's lacrosse, women's rowing, and fencing, Harvard has produced 141 national team championships and numerous Olympians who have faced off against elite competition and in almost every time zone. The Harvard Crimson women's tennis program accounts for 18 ivy league championships, laying claim to five of them in the past 12 years.

The Groupon Guide to: Choosing a Jersey Number

Professional athletes are faced with many difficult decisions, such as choosing to which charity to donate their entire salary or settling on a jersey number. If you get picked to play big ball with the big boys and big girls, use these helpful tips for selecting your definitive digits:

  • Choose a number that has meaning to you, such as the number of teeth inside your mouth.

  • Go with a number that gives you an interesting story to tell the sports reporters whenever they ask you "Hey champ, could you tell us why you picked that uniform number again?" This number could be the amount of people you'd kiss if you had no respect for personal boundaries.

  • Pick a random number, such as 9 or maybe even 10. It's up to you as long as it's either 9 or 10!

  • No one has ever gotten away with a three-digit number … yet.

  • Do you have a lucky number? If you don't, you should choose one now because you'll need one—most professional athletes have incredibly short careers and aren't qualified to do anything else.

Did Shaquille O'Neal choose number 32 because that was the number of teeth he had at the time? Find out in today's Groupon Guide.
