Gridiron gladiators from the Big Ten and the Big 12 collide on New Year’s Day, as the Purdue Boilermakers and the Oklahoma State Cowboys clash at Cotton Bowl Stadium. The Cowboys earned their seventh-straight bowl appearance by posting a 7–5 record, including signature victories over Iowa State and Texas Tech. A unanimous selection to this season’s First-Team All-Big 12 team, junior running back Joseph Randle leads the Cowboys down the field with a repertoire of evasive moves including jukes, cutbacks, and using a tree branch to cover tracks in the snow.

After ending their season with three straight victories, including a 56–35 dismantling of in-state rival Indiana University, the Boilermakers ride a wave of positive momentum into their second bowl game in as many years. Named a Second-Team All-American by The Associated Press, fifth-year senior defensive tackle Kawann Short will anchor the defense in his final career game, showing the Cowboys the combination of strength and agility that helped him net six sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss in 2012.
