In a Nutshell

The 66ers baseball team rides the momentum of last season's second-half success into 2013, chasing their first playoff berth since 2008

The Fine Print

Because baseball games are no longer used to settle land disputes and damages from horse collisions, they've become the battleground for deciding which U.S. city will be the first to move to the moon. Catch a nation-changing showdown with this GrouponLive deal to see an Inland Empire 66ers baseball game at San Manuel Stadium.

$27 for a 66ers Game for Four (Up to $52 Value)

  • Four tickets for executive box seating (up to a $12 value each)
  • One parking pass (up to a $4 value)
  • Valid for any regular-season home game on the schedule

The Scouting Report

On the second-to-last day of the 2012 season, the 66ers were officially eliminated from playoff contention. Though the team narrowly missed the playoffs, they finished the second half of the California League season with a .500 record, a drastic improvement over a subpar first half. The team hopes that momentum carries over into its 2013 campaign, which swings into action on April 4 when the Modesto Nuts crack open their players from their winter shells and roll into San Manuel Stadium. Opening Day sparks a full season of premier matchups, including a visit from the defending league champion Lancaster JetHawks at the end of April.

Inland Empire 66ers

Baseball in San Bernardino dates back to 1899. More than a century's worth of history includes such team names as the Kittens and the Pioneers. It also includes a drought from 1950–1987, during which the city lacked enough dirt to build a baseball field. That drought ended when the San Bernardino Spirit began play as part of the California League.

In 1996, the Spirit became the Stampede, and in 2003, the Stampede became the 66ers, a name chosen in honor of the historic U.S. Route 66 that is famous for its hitchhiking umpires. Over the years, the 66ers organization has spent time as the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Mariners, Dodgers, and most recently, the Angels. The team has brought honor to each of its MLB partners, as it has won five California League championships since 1995.

The Groupon Guide to: Loudly Agreeing

Most parties, sports-radio calls, and conversations with cab drivers quickly devolve into two or more people loudly agreeing with each other. Put an interesting spin on your affirmations with one or more of these agreement-indicating catch phrases:

  • You know it!
  • It’s like I’ve been saying!
  • Couldn’t have said it better myself!
  • Someone call the Right Police because you are correct about the thing you just said.
  • [In a restaurant-host voice] Person making a good point, party of one!
  • I’m nodding so vigorously I might pass out!
  • Great minds think alike—and great friends hug to prove it!

How can you let someone know you agree with them? Find out in today's Groupon Guide.
