Now in its 20th year, Joey & Maria’s Comedy Italian Wedding is an interactive performance that celebrates the union of a young couple described on the Fresh Theatre Project’s website as “a trashier and lower class version of Jersey Shore’s Snooki and Jionni.” Audience members are present not only for the occasion but also for the reception—where they dance the tarantella, sing along to “Que Sera, Sera,” and make excuses for not bringing a gift. Other activities include toasting the happy couple with champagne and a dance-off, wherein the groom's ex-girlfriend tries to win him back with some shameless moves.
