In a Nutshell

Four girls experience the highs and lows of young love during a coming-of-age musical set to a classic soundtrack of 1950s and 1960s hits

The Fine Print

Legendary entertainers Kenan and Kel made theatrical history when they broke down the fourth wall, and then, to the consternation of the set designer, broke down the second and third walls as well. Experience the magic of the stage with this GrouponLive deal: for $36, you get two general-admission tickets to The Marvelous Wonderettes presented by Jonathan Pennington Studios at the Cameo Theatre (up to a $72 value). Doors open an hour before each performance. Choose from the following performances:

  • Saturday, September 29, at 8 p.m.
  • Sunday, September 30, at 3:30 p.m.
  • Friday, October 5, at 8 p.m.
  • Friday, October 12, at 8 p.m.
  • Friday, October 19, at 8 p.m.
  • Sunday, October 21, at 3:30 p.m.

The Marvelous Wonderettes revives the high-school glee clubs of yore with a revue of girl-group hits from the 1950s and 1960s. Rock, bop, and mumble the lyrics along with such delightful ditties as "Lollipop," "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss)," and "It's My Party (And I'll Eat 90 Moon Pies If I Want To)." The poppy musical tells the story of a quartet of lady crooners—Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy, and Suzy—as they perform at their high-school prom, then reunite to sing together again at their 10-year reunion.

Cameo Theatre

An Egyptian art-deco style anchors the Cameo Theatre, luring wandering eyes with polychrome accents, gilt columns, and a sphinx that permits entry only after guests solve a riddle. A surviving artifact of the 1940s, the theater first opened as a home for vaudeville acts and movies but has since filled its stage with a diverse roster of legendary performers from B.B. King to Metallica, and it now regularly hosts theatrical productions.

The Groupon Guide to: Buying a Car

Buying a car is an intimidating experience. The man looks at you. He wants to sell you the car for more than it is worth. Beat the man. Beat the man until he cries with these tips:

• Always drive the car. This will let you make sure that it is free of the five most deadly species on earth and that it has a floor and the dealer isn’t Flintstone-ing you (a technique wherein the dealer sells you a car with no floor named after Flint Stone, an early dishonest car salesman).

• Immediately list everything you hate about the car. It has a nick here, a dent there. It is the same color as your rival’s eyes. You looked at them in a field. You were the last man to look at those eyes. Your rival sold you a lemon. He is gone.

• When the dealer says the price, scream. Oh, scream until your nose bleeds and all of creation fears your machinations. Oh, scream your voice raw, honey. Good heavens!

• Ride away on your bicycle. This was good practice for when you really decide to buy a car.

Be sure to scream as fiercely as a newborn babe or warrior brave. Scream with all your grit, sweet honey.
