The heartwarming comedy A Waffle House Christmas Musical smothers and covers audiences with homespun humor, catchy songs, and the talents of a beloved TV veteran. Joyce DeWitt, forever known as Janet from Three’s Company, stars in this charming Yuletide tale of love, loss, and redemption as Rita—a plucky waitress snowed in with a vibrant cast of characters at a Carolina interstate Waffle House on Christmas Eve. But they aren’t the normal clientele. Audiences quickly discover that Rita and many of her greasy-spoon regulars are actually dead, and that the restaurant is a sort of buttery purgatory where they cavort among the living. In order to pass on to the pearly gates, each spirit must successfully enact a good deed for one of the living Waffle House customers—a cornpone crew of good ol’ boys, aspiring country singers, drunk santas, deacons, nuns, golden girls, and hippies. When Rita’s widowed husband walks through the door, the comedy takes a turn for the hankies as she gets her bittersweet deeds assignment: matchmaking her former love with a lonesome single mom.

Filled with good-natured comedy by North Carolina playwright Kaine Riggan that takes advantage of DeWitt’s veteran sitcom skills, as well as original tunes alongside a score featuring pop, country, R & B, and songs from Nashville legends Randy Travis and T. Graham Brown, A Waffle House Christmas Musical tempts audiences to leave tips on the stage. As a bonus gift to fans, Joyce DeWitt will sign autographs in the lobby after every performance.

The Groupon Guide to: New Plays

Anyone who thinks live theater is a dying art hasn't experienced the magic of an actor creating an explosion on stage using only sounds from his mouth or changing into a different character using only a switch of the hat. Take a look at some of the fascinating contemporary plays coming to a theater near you:

The Sanders Family Chronicles: When the family dog dies, the Sanders family's 14 adult children must return to the small Southern town where they grew up. Getting these 14 very different people to agree on one dog's burial plot won't be easy, and you can bet secrets are going to be revealed.

Oh! To Move! or The Weather in Cincinnati Has Never Been So Clear: Don't ever say an old lady can't dance. Ever since her husband passed, Eva Marie can't stop boppin' to the beat. This 67-year-old has a new lease on life, and she's swingin' her stuff at every pub in town when she meets a stranger who loves dancing just as much as she does. This feel-good hit has critics saying "Go, Eva Marie, go!"

The Last Soldier of Queens: When a major corporation comes in and wants to turn all of Queens into a Dormart, a regular working-class man named Reginald Guy stands his ground. As Dormart razes the town to prepare for construction, Reg Guy watches his hometown transform into a postapocalyptic wasteland. It all comes to a head in a climatic showdown between Reg and his nemesis, The Bulldozer Monster.

When will you see the new play "The Last Soldier of Queens"?
